Before his entrepreneurial breakouts, Jay was an executive in the hospitality and media industries providing strategic Marketing, Operations, and Sales solutions for Au Bon Pain, USA Today, and the Chicago Sun-Times. Prior to launching On The Beaton Path, he conceived, developed and co-created SpillingTheBeansChicago.com, a social media community dedicated to the Chicago coffee scene.
Jay speaks publicly, and instructs current MBA candidates on Entrepreneurship, and Social Media. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce, and has served as Board member and Fundraising Coordinator of Music for Youth in Arlington Heights.
Jay has an MBA from Northern Illinois University and received his BS in Business from Salem State College in Massachusetts.
As a talented database analyst, Amy brought Management and Marketing solutions to non-profit arts organizations, most notably the Boston Lyric Opera, and Handel and Hayden Society in Boston before launching On The Beaton Path, LLC with husband Jay.
A gifted and classically trained musician, Amy was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Wellesley College. She serves on the Board for Music for Youth in Arlington Heights, IL, as Registrar.
A veteran journalist, Larry has worked in virtually every aspect of the publishing business from messenger boy to newspaper and magazine publisher over the last 40-years. Most recently, Larry led the successful launch of the Wilmette-based monthly magazine MakeItBetter.net where he is publisher. Before that he spent 9 years as president and publisher of the Pioneer Press newspaper group where he guided NorthShore Magazine through periods of unprecedented growth.
Larry’s career began as National Correspondent and Bureau Chief for the Los Angeles Times. He spent nearly a decade at the Chicago Daily News as both a foreign correspondent in Vietnam and the Middle East and a legislative and investigative reporter.
During a ten year career at the Chicago Sun-Times Larry served as Director of Niche Publications, Director of Classified Advertising, Executive Editor and Vice President of Advertising and Marketing.
James M. Johnson PhD
As a Professor of Finance at Northern Illinois University, Johnson has been an expert witness in numerous leasing disputes, and has been a trainer and corporate finance is in corporate finance, and he has been instructor of the Executive MBA capstone project for the past six years.
Before going to Northern Illinois University, Paul and his uncle started a DJ business in Chicago. This is where his interest in business development and social media started to grow. Paul attended NIU to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Business. While at NIU, he participated in a business consulting program called the Experiential Learning Center and had an internship with an amazing consulting firm. Guess Who ;) After graduation, Paul joined our team!
James is president and CEO of BaseZero Productions, a full-service creative communications company located in Vernon Hills, IL. He brings more than 20 years of experience in print, video and interactive design to OTBP, giving clients imaginative, effective marketing collateral to help build their businesses.
Prior to founding BaseZero, Speers worked at Quill Corporation, a leader in the office supply industry. Working directly with the marketing and advertising departments, he was responsible for the conception, direction and layout of many different projects at both the local and national level.
Speers is also a veteran having served four years in the U.S. Navy as a Fire Control Technician.
